Met Gala 2012

Costume Institute Benefit Celebrating

Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations

Very exciting watching the Red Carpet Live Stream. Two Italian Designers displayed in one area, so why not at the Metropolitan Museam of Art. The question of the evening, "Have you ever heard of Schiaparelli before tonight?"

Schiaparelli created:

  • Vivid colors and vivacious fashions
  • A Rival of Coco Chanel
  • Influenced wrap dresses, square shoulders, wedge heels, skorts to name a few.
Here's a sneak peek at the Exclusive Video with Schiaparelli (portrayed by Judy Davis) and Miuccia Prada - Video

"Parasols and Celebrations"

To some parasols may seem like a new fashion statement or a new decor for an event, and others know that the parasols have been around for generations. I would like to give you a brief background on parasols and correlate it to they are used in events.

The origin is between the Middle East and Egypt. The meaning is pretty simple which when you break it down: "Para" means to stop or shield and "sol" means the sun. So basically it was created to be used to shield you from the sun versus the rain like an umbrella. Despite its meaning, various locations use them in different ways. Some countries used them as a marked of distinction by its usefulness not so much the ornamental qualities, and others used them in special ceremonies. A woman with a parasol was marked in some countries as being a Lady of Fashion or simply assured you were a Lady of Class.

In recent times, Parasols have been stepped up a notch and have become a part of celebrations whether it's a birthday party, a baby or bridal shower, or even a wedding. It could be used as a simple decor or a major spotlight decor at your event. You can either rent or buy parasols (Bella Umbrella) to match your colors or theme or simply buy some (Pamela's Parasols) and be creative with a DIY project for kids or your wedding party.

Ritz Carlton of Westchester

Stylish Social Occasions Special Event

What does Occasions by Elena, Ritz Carlton of Westchester, Damselfly Designs, RSVP Invtes, and Forever in Bloom have in common with Liftime Events by Jacqueline?

Elena Pemberty, owner of Occasions by Elena and Jacqueline Vazquez, owner of Lifetime Events by Jacqueline spent an awesome time at the first annual Stylish Socal Occasion Event on April 1st at the Ritz Carlton of Westchester. They featured vendors from different areas of the industry as they came together to showcase designs, menus, favors, florals, music, stationery, educational insights, and so much more for social events.

I have worked together with Elena in numerous occasions, and she brings her special touches to make all brides enhance the beauty they have and add that WOW effect. Makeup and Hair is her specialty, but her dedication to making sure the client feels comforatble, excited and amazing is what makes her stand out as a top professional.

As we strolled through the event, I came across professionals that I have worked with and love their work, great customer service, and attention to details. Among those included: RSVP Invites (Beautiful Wedding and Social Stationery), Damselfly Designs (Awesome Event Designers for Special Events both social and corporate), and Forever in Bloom (Beautiful florals and floral preservations).

Many more professionals where in attendance and had great displays. Looking forward to working with them all. It was a great event, and I am looking forward to their next event.

"Tangerine Tango - 2012 Color of the Year"

What better color than the color palette of my business. Pantone is the Color Expert in the event industry. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute comments about the color, “sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it. Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.” These features all described the type of detail and quality Lifetime Events by Jacqueline provides our clients.

You may have a favorite color or a color that attracts you more than others, but would those be the colors that you select to put together your next Big Special Event? You may select a theme for your special event to identify a style that you like or just seems exciting. With that same thought, you should think about what attracts you to the color you will be selecting. Do you know what you color means? Do you know the feel of the color? If you are not using the color of the year, then find out from Pantone what your selected color means and incorporate that in your theme.

Below is a list to reflect back on colors of the past:

  • 2011 - Honeysuckle: Pantone described the color as a courageous, confident, and vital color. Ms. Eiseman describes this color as a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going. She continues by saying "that the Honeysuckle derives it's positive qualities from a powerful bond to its mother color red, the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the spectrum."
  • 2010 - Turquoise: Pantone described the color as inviting, luminous hue, combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, inspiring thoughts of soothing, tropical waters, and a comforting escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.

  • 2009 - Mimosa: Pantone described the color as optimism is paramount and no color expresses hope and reassurance more that a yellow. Ms. Eiseman adds "that the color exemplifies the warmth and nurturing quality of the sun, properties we as humans naturally drawn to for reassurance." Mimosa she says also speaks to enlightenment, as it is a hue that sparks imagination and innovation.
  • 2008 - Blue Iris: Pantone described this color as a beautifully balanced blue-purple, combining the stable and calming aspects of blue with the mystical and spiritual qualities of purple. Blue iris satisfies the need for reassurance in a complex world, while adding a hint of mystery and excitement. Ms. Eiseman says that blue iris is a reflection of the times, bringing together the dependable aspects of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative with a touch of magic.

Want to guess the color of the year for 2013? Let us know your thoughts. When we post this newsletter on our blog, write your color selection for 2013.
